Magnit opens debut outlets at Russian Post’s offices

MOSCOW, Jun 28 (PRIME) -- Magnit, one of Russia’s largest grocery chains, has opened 13 debut outlets at post offices of Russian Post in Moscow, the Krasnodar and Ryazan regions, the companies said in a joint statement on Thursday.

There are 12 fixed outlets which offer 200-800 goods items and a movable store with 50 items.

“In rural locations these are primarily food items, home care products, everyday essentials… in cities (we offer) beverages, snacks and confectionery products. In villages, customers may influence the assortment through a feedback mechanism,” the companies said.

The cooperation is expected to reduce costs for both companies.

“The launch of test outlets at post offices will help Magnit extend its geography of presence and enter territories where conventional stores are economically unviable,” the statement quoted Russian Post CEO Nikolai Podguzov as saying.

“We also plan to launch food delivery services at all the new outlets.”
